Have any of you southerners ever recognized how folks never decline and
invitation directly.  It is usually, "I will do everything I can to be
there," which you soon realize is the polite way of say I won't.

I dunno.  I just remember my grandmother's 80th birthday tea and my uncle
explaining why no one would park directly in front of the house for fear of
being rude and blocking someone else who wanted to park there.
