The National Museum of Denmark

Position as Curator/Senior Researcher in museology/museum studies.

The Department of Exhibitions and Public Programs of The National Museum of
Denmark readvertises the position of curator/ (senior) researcher of
museology to be filled as soon as possible, since the successful candidate
due to private circumstances has had to withdraw.

The National Museum aims, in both its research and other central museum
functions, to develop and strengthen research in the field of museology.

Responsibilities central to the position will be:
-       the development of a common theoretical frame of reference for
different academic disciplines throughout the museum
-       the development of theoretical concepts relating the form and
content of museum communications, not least exhibition languages
-       the analysis and development of the methods and particular
identity of museums in the realm of communication and representation
-       the development of new forms of cooperation within the museum,
between the museum and its users, and with other museums.
Beyond research, the position will involve participation in other museum
work including teaching and training within the institution and the
preparation of seminars, lectures and similar activities relating to the
general responsibilities of the museum as well as special projects.

Applicants should have a relevant academic background, at Ph.D level or
above, in traditional museum disciplines or related areas such as
communications theory, psychology, education, architecture and design.
In addition, applicants will be presumed to have documented experience of
museum work.
Applications from those with overseas qualifications in the field of
museology or museum studies are encouraged.

Emphasis will be placed on international experience and the desire and
ability to contribute to multidisciplinary teams and projects.

Applications will be assessed by an external selection committee and an
internal appointment committee.
Graded salary according to agreements between the Ministry of Finance and
the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
(Approximately 240.000 Dkr to 360.000 DKr per Annum). Non-Danish
candidates might be eligible for tax-reductions if taking the position on a time-limited
basis of up to 3 years.

The National Museum of Denmark is a museum of culture and history, spanning
Danish and international collections from pre-history to the present time.
The museum has a permanent staff of about 750, and a total exhibition space
of 10.000 m2 plus a large Open Air museum.
