I am posting this for a group not on the list.  Please do not respond to
me.  Also in phone discussion I learned that the salary range is $40,000
to $45,000.

Position:       Executive Director
                Fort Wayne Allen County Historical Museum
                Fort Wayne, Indiana

Reports to:     Board of Directors, Allen County Historical Society

Work with a staff of 9:
        Curator
        Education Coordinator
        Registrar
        Administrative Assistant/scheduling coordinator to the Executive
Director
        Public Relations
        Gift Shop Manager
        Facilities Manager
        Maintenance Assistants(2)
         Security
        plus 2 part-time cleaning personnel

The Historical Society is over 75 years old, founded in 1921.
        -1926 Swinney Homestead
        -moved to the Old City Hall in 1980 with a $1.2  million restoration
                over 10,000 sq. ft. exhibition space
                (added Technology and police Galleries, new Ethnic displays, DAR
collection)
        -acquired Barr Street Market Plaza
        -acquired home of the civil chief of  Miami Indians
        -turning the Old Fort into a River greenway park

Budget:         1. bulk is from foundations
                2.Arts United
                3. Ft Wayne Community Schools
                4. membership
                        want to expand the Corporate sponsorships

Collections:    20,000 artifacts, 100,000 archival

Exhibits:       1 major exhibit (want to expand to 3 to 4 per year) plus one
major  fundraising                              exhibit/event a year

Potential for Growth:
        -ability to access $ to re-hab the building; add on addition, re-do
gallery
        -long term project ideas
Candidate MUSTS:
-Planful                                        people oriented
-maturity                               inspirational/a motivator/a leader
-strong management approach             visionary
-organized                              energetic
-strong attention to detail
The successful candidate must be strong enough in experience, knowledge,
education, and communications to garner the respect of the museum staff.

Responsibilities will include:
        long and short-range plan development and implementation
        administration and staff supervision
        exhibitions, programs, publications
        budgeting and financial management
        public representation of the museum
        play an active role in fundraising
        interpreting and maintaining collection
        acquisitions

1.      They are looking for a "builder" personality; someone that will set
goals and       take the museum the next step into the new century.
2.      Someone that will maintain a strong presence within the community.
3.      Be a good fund-raiser.
4.      Someone that will be successful in providing the personal leadership
and vision      for growth & development to achieve local, regional and
national recognition.

This will be an exciting position for someone that is strong in
experience, communication, organization and development and is looking
at making a real difference with their strides for the museum.
