I have been following the thread as well.

I agree, MS-ACCESS is not for all collections, especially big ones, but
you know what?  Once you start using ACCESS, you can always port over to
SQL or some other large database program to handle larger file sizes,
which is necessary for images etc.. Just ask Richard Gerrard at Heritage
Toronto that's exactly what he did.  I am not so confident in
proprietary systems such as InMagic etc.. in the ability to grow and
have the easiblity to port over to other systems as MS ACESS does.

For my needs and for the majority of Community Museums in Ontario, we
require first and formost an inventory tracking system and MSACCESS does
that very well for most smaller collections (under 50,000 records). And
the beauty is that you can add and change the functionality of time
without having to mess with the raw data.
