Visitors Bureau, community groups, and the Internet. (MCA's Web Site is at
www.mcasandiego.org)

Requirements:

· 3-5 years' experience in a senior or middle-management level in a public
relations office, preferably in a museum or other arts organization

· B.A. degree in p.r., marketing, or related field of study, with some
academic experience in art history

· Ability to work well with staff, volunteers, trustees, and the public in a
museum or comparable environment.

· High level of writing proficiency -- ability to write quickly and
persuasively.

· Experience in the use of computers and the Web

· Ability to effectively lead the Museum's p.r. efforts, and to participate as
a Senior Staff member in cross-department project teams to market and promote
MCA programs.

· Enthusiasm for and understanding of contemporary art

We are seeking a collaborative, intellectually curious individual with
excellent leadership and communications skills, who can be an effective
spokesperson for the Museum. Knowledge of the San Diego or Southern
California media markets a plus. Must be flexible, self-sufficient, and
willing to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. At MCA, P.R. is a one-person
office, thus the successful candidate must be willing and able to handle a
wide range of responsibilities.

Salary range: $32,000 to $35,000 depending on experience. MCA offers
excellent fringe benefits including paid health and dental insurance, and a
pleasant work environment in La Jolla.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Please send cover letter, resume with salary history, references, and writing
samples (including press releases) to P.R. Search, Development Office, Museum
of Contemporary Art, San Diego, 700 Prospect Street, La Jolla, California
92037. All applications must be received by September 1, 1998.
