The American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC)
is hosting its 26th Annual Meeting in the greater Washington, DC metro area
June 1-7, 1998 with the general theme "Disaster Preparedness, Response and
Recovery."  Lynn Nicholas, author of The Rape of Europa, will kick off the
program as this year's Keynote Speaker.  Workshops and presentations by
international and U.S. disaster management experts and conservators will be
featured during two day-long sessions on Preparedness and Response.  Sessions
conducted by AIC specialty and subgroups--Architecture, Book and Paper,
Objects, Paintings, Photographic Materials, Research and Technical Studies,
Textiles, Wooden Artifacts, and Conservators in Private Practive--will
continue with the theme of Recovery during the remainder of the week.
Conservation suppliers will be available to answer questions about their
products and services in the Exhibit Hall, June 3-6.

To date, we have over 700 registrants.  Many workshops and sessions are still
open!  Do not miss out on this opportunity to learn about and confer with
colleages on historical and cultural property disaster management.  Sign up
