    I agree with Doug Lantry's assessment:  objects *are* politics, and political.    Material culture is, of course, the study of culture expressed in the products of
    human manufacture. One (very brief!) definition of "politics" says that political behaviors are
    concerned with the strategies for gaining power and/or control.  Political parties, policies, and
    political campaigns fit within this definition.  But so do artifacts - some with more overt
    relationships to gaining power and control over human populations (here's where the military
    uniforms fit in, along with weapons and ordinance, etc.)  The politics of other artifacts may
    be less overt, but no less real.
