CULTURAL PROPERTY PROTECTION NEWS...............
...................UPDATE

First established in 1977, The National Conference On Cultural
Property Protection has just concluded another successful
conference in Washington, D.C. This long-running conference
and ICMS Cultural Property Protection Exposition addresses
issues of: security, fire protection (which represents the greatest
potential threat to a cultural institution), safety, facilities management,
emergency/disaster planning/preparedness, in all types of cultural
institutions and provides a forum where professionals who are
responsible for the protection of cultural property can get together,
learn ways to better protect the cultural property in their care, and
network, network, network. Copies of the 1998 Conference
Proceedings are available @ USD $ 25.00 each - please contact
the Registrar at (202) 633-9446 or E Mail [log in to unmask]
at the Smithsonian Instititution for details on ordering.

For 1999, this Smithsonian Conference will hold a joint meeting
with The International Committee On Museum Security of The
International Council of Museums and "take Its Show On The Road"
to meet at The New J. Paul Getty Institution, in California, USA.
The dates of this exciting conference venue will be 7-12 March 1999.
Stay turned for further details on this rare joint conference as they
become available (the last one took place in 1987). This may be
the best way to get to see the new Getty Institution as the waiting
lines are now "stretching around the block."
