An article in the Feb. 9 Washington Post National Weekly edition seems apropos
at this point in the various "discussion." - a few pertinent excerpts from the
article by David Damrosch:

1. Cartoon of museum facade reads "In Pursuit of Knowledge and the Free
Exchange of Ideas" below which someone has added "as long as no one gets mad
or takes offense or threatens to cut funding."

2. "We need our curators to be more honest about the ways they shape the past
to present needs, and bolder in their willingness to present controversial
viewpoints, to create rather than avoid a lively forum. As audiences we have
a parallel responsibility: to engage critically with the exhibits, not
thinking that our only choices are bland acceptance or outraged rejection."

Food for thought...
