Subject: Re: AAM "Certification" as a requirement for accreditation

The Committee on Professional Museum Training (COMPT), one of the 12
Standing Professional Committees of the AAM, has begun working with the SPC
Council to develop a series of basic knowledge/skills requirements for each
of the professions (Audience Evaluation, Security, Management,
Registration, Curation, Education, PR and Marketing, Small Museum
Administration, Development and Marketing, Media and Technology, Exhibits).
The current plan is for these requirements to be disseminated to museum
studies programs so that they (and their students) will know what is
expected from someone coming into a job in that profession for the first
time.

For more information contact Bob Nauert (Chicago Historical Society) or
James Kelly (Virginia Historical Society), SPC Council Co-Chairs.
