No, Miss Wilson, it was a kneejerk reaction to the lightbulb thread,
which I, for one, thought was not entirely suitable to a professional
discussion list.
I didn't loose any sleep over it, although it does cause me to wonder
how many hours per year are lost downloading and scanning irrevelant
messages.
To many of us, our online time is limited and more expensive than for
those enjoying the rates offered in America, not to mention the fleeting
personal and professional hours required to address electronic mail.
Therefore some may resent spam or trivial observations clogging our
inboxes. I certainly expect the list to solely focus on subjects of
interest to me - however, I do consider a certain level of information
to be shared or discussed before the list retains creditability.
Some people simply don't know the difference between a professional list
and the chat room sites.
Since I joined museum-l, I've been getting spammed by everyone from
musical instrument vendors to spammers seeking new clients.
Unfortunately, we must all waste time daily downloading the flotsam to
get to the more palatable material. The list is clearly being exploited.
thanks for the comment-
Bruce Miller
