A Bostonian is here to tell you that "Yankee" means "WASP descended from
early settlers."  Most people in Massachusetts, at any rate, thus are
not Yankees.

Rich Yankees are called "Brahmins" as long as their money was made
before 1860.  Poor ones are called "swamp Yankees" (roughly equivalent
to "white trash").

A person named Hamilton Eddy would almost certainly be a Republican.
The Democrat would be named Eddy Hamilton, and is much less likely to be
a Yankee.

All of the above are more likely to be fighting each other than to be
worried about what Southerners think of them.
