Please excuse this cross-posting about hands-on and interactive
activities.

I am currently developing a "hands-on," interactive walking tour of a
downtown Washington D.C. neighborhood.  The tour's target audience is
families, and over the course of their 90- minute or so tour they will
uncover the history of the neighborhood through a variety of sources --
handling some objects; looking at the built environment, a broadside,
photographs, etc; perhaps listening to some period music or doing some
role-playing; etc. My goal  is to create an engaging experience for all
ages.

I would like to draw on the experience and ideas of those of you who
have done this before to determine what you have discovered to be
effective hands-on or interactive techniques or activities for families
(or for any specific age).   In general I will have no more than 3-4
minutes for each activity and will have anywhere from 5-10 activities.

You can respond to me either on- or off-list.  I will be happy to
compile the results  and post them back to the list; also I would be
happy to post those activities that I finally decide to use.
