Coordinator of Adult, Youth and Family Programs
(A Full-Time Temporary Position)

The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum is seeking a full-time Coordinator
of Adult, Youth and Family Programs to plan and manage all aspects of
fee-based programs such as workshops, courses, lecture series, field trips,
children's storyhours, and performances; on-site, off-site and through
Internet-based distance learning.

This newly established position will be responsible for the planning and
delivery of year-round seasonal adult, youth and family programs,
pre-school through adult; planning and implementation of the semester-long
annual Astro-Science Workshop for high school students; development and
management of annual budget, including projecting income, reconciling
monthly financials and budget reports; recruitment, hiring and evaluation
of some 45-60 annual program staff, including Adler and adjunct staff;
creation of marketing strategies, including production of program
brochures, to ensure maximum program participation as well as expand and
diversify audience.

Education required for this position is a BA or BS in science, liberal
arts, museum education, communications or related fields. Previous
experience desired includes four years-plus in creating competitive
cutting-edge programs that teach science in the context of broader
understandings through history, human cultures and the arts;  promoting
collaborative programs with museums, colleges and universities, and State
and federal educational/science institutions; and producing budget-driven
programming that generates revenues to ensure break-even or profit-bearing
outcomes.

The successful candidate will be a creative, spontaneous and resourceful
person who can handles many projects simultaneously with ease as well as
promote enthusiasm amongst Adler staff and outside individuals/groups
encouraging program ideas and participation.

This position is a twelve-month funded position with continuation based on
program success and funding.

Coordinator of Teacher Services
(A Full-Time Temporary Position)

The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum is seeking a Coordinator of
Teacher Services to plan and manage all aspects of teacher education and
school-related activities including academic programs for elementary, high
school, college and university; special educator events; curriculum
development, and school group visits. Fifty percent of this position will
be devoted to the oversight of Project ASTRO, a grant-funded program that
partners teachers with volunteer astronomers in science education.

This newly established position will be responsible for the planning and
delivery of  seasonal teacher education programs; development and
coordination of Project ASTRO, a year-long program including teacher
training, recruiting teachers and volunteer astronomers, and establishing
project coalition; produce program brochures and marketing strategies;
develop exhibit-based educational materials; participate in development of
Internet-based distance learning and teleconferencing experiences; and work
in concert with Chicago Public Schools, suburban school systems, colleges
and universities and community organizations to promote collaborative
efforts.

Education required for this position is a BS in science education, museum
education or related fields.  Previous experience desired includes four
years-plus in teacher education programming,  classroom teaching, and
curriculum development responsive to School Reform issues and State and
national standards for science teaching and learning.  Must possess an
understanding of inquiry-based pedagogy linking classroom and museum
experiences as well as a knowledge of or desire to learn the integration of
computer technologies in educational programming.

The successful candidate will possess vision and creativity in program
design that links teachers, parents and community resources in student
learning, be knowledgeable of School Reform issues, especially as they
apply to the Chicago Public Schools Curriculum Frameworks and the Illinois
Academic Standards, and development of programs and educational materials
that promote exhibit-based teaching and learning through museum
experiences.

This is a twelve-month funded position with continuation based on program
success and funding.
