Rodger --
Beverly Serrell's book *is* excellent, and off-hand I can recommend none
finer.
The Brooklyn Children's Museum published "Doing It Right: A Workbook for
Improving Exhibit Labels," which is useful in setting up a label system.
This was available through AAM.
The Minnesota Institute of Arts published a style guide, specifically
for art museums, but which may have broader applicability. I believe
this in only available by contacting the MIA directly.
The Field Museum put together a style manual several years ago with the
help of Judy Rand. Since it was written there has been almost complete
turnover at The Field; I have a copy, and you can also contact Judy at

The Shedd Aquarium is about to develop a style manual.
I seem to recall the Science Museum of Minnesota published something in
the Sourcebook of an AAM or MMC meeting.
Other exhibit professionals can probably offer other suggestions.
