EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Curator of Education

The Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society s collection is focused on shipwrecks
of the 16th to 18th centuries and the impact of maritime history on the
development of the American and Caribbean colonies. The collection includes
Spanish and English ships, one of which is a merchant slaver. The museum s
programs include the presentation of the permanent collection, changing
exhibitions, traveling exhibitions, publications, and underwater archaeological
excavation.

Existing programs include after-school and summer classes for youth, lecture
series for family audiences and adults, hands-on workshops, tours, and
traveling trunk exhibits. The Society is looking for an energetic and creative
person with a strong educational philosophy to lead its educational and public
programs into the 21st century. This person will develop new programs, reach
out to new audiences, as well as improve visitor services within the context of
the Society s current efforts. He or she will work with the director,
curatorial and archaeological staff to conceive, develop, implement, and manage
relevant and effective interpretive programs to make the Society s collections
and exhibition more accessible to the broad range of our audience. This person
must have the ability to train and teach diverse constituencies whether as
students, docents, or teachers. He or she must be well-organized and have
excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

Requirements: M.A. or equivalent plus five years experience in museum
education. Divemaster certification desirable but not required.
The Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society is an equal opportunity employer and
actively encourages applications from minorities and women.
