Hi Kathy & alll,

We are currently negotiating the "donation" of The Australian Ballet's archive to the Performing Arts Museum.

Some of the issues that have arisen with this large donation are the costs of storage, materials, equippment, cataloguing and imaging of the collection. It has been proposed that we only take the collection if we have the funds to give it due care. The ballet does not have the dowry to send with the collection and to be honest, the outcome of this negotiation is uncertain. I think a sponsorshiip enterprise is being looked into.

Do any of you ever approach the donors of a collection to give money
toward the care (storage space, staff time to process, archival supplies
needed to store the objects or artwork) of the particular collection
they have given? Do any of you have to turn down important donations
because of the lack of resources to care for the objects/artwork?
