John,
We have over 600 photographs in our collection with archival information
available on the web -- on-line images for some. If you are interested in
assigning a class research project using works in the collection, contact me or
Suzanne Foley, our curator.
To access our search engine, go to our homepage:
http://www.virginia.edu/~bayly/bayly.html
Click on "Collections and Image Search" for explanation of how the search
process works, then to the "Search" page
(http://jefferson.village.virginia.edu/bayly/search.html)
Click on "Photography" and include date ranges if you wish. Click on "Caption
with thumbnails" for available images (takes a little longer to load).
Let me know if you or your students have problems or questions. Good to see
you when David Plowden was here.
