There is quite a useful publication from the Smithsonian called "Snakes,
Snails and History Tails, Building Discovery Rooms and Learning Labs at the
Smithsonian Institution."  It was published in 1991 through the Offices of
Education at the Zoo, Natural History and American History.  It can probably
still be ordered through the SI. We recently got a copy from Judith White who
worked on both the rooms and the book.  She has moved to California, and I
could find her address if you are interested.
