I am posting this for Joan Armstrong, curator of the Smyth County
Historical Society (VA).

She has received a donation of a ceremonial helmet with decorative
tinwork.  It resembles "Prussian helmets" with a "spike" with an orange
plume.

On inside leather band is:  P. M. D. Phila.
                                           A. C. Gilson
                                           Sackett

On metal bracket inside at crown of hat is : Horst Bros. Co., Philadelphia


This item was purchased at an antique store in New Jersey.  Any
information on the possible provenance or use of this hat OR
suggestions for contacts for more information would be appreciated.
