I get into museums here in NYC for free with my Am. Assn. of Museums
membership card, which is honored, sometimes for two free admissions, at
most museums. Other than that, the museums here are pretty expensive and
the cashiers are pretty cold- they've heard every story in the book from
folks trying to get in free or cheaper and seem to have been trained to
immediately cut you off and demand full admission; and they check student
i.d.s and the likes assiduously.. Most museums have one evening a week
when admission is free. At popular museums, such as the Guggenheim and
MoMA, I suggest getting there early before the crowds show up...

For all this trouble, most of the museums here are world class and it's
worth every penny and/or every ounce of effort!
