Museum Loan Network Hires Program Associate

The Museum Loan Network (MLN), which was launched in October 1995 with
funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and The Pew
Charitable Trusts, has hired Michele Assaf in the newly created position of
Program Associate. The MLN, based at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT) and administered through MIT’s Office of the Arts, was
created to increase the public’s access to a wealth of objects currently in
storage by encouraging and facilitating the long term borrowing and lending
of art objects among United States museums.

Ms. Assaf, most recently Registrar of the Denver Art Museum, will be
responsible for the MLN Directory, a database of art objects available for
long-term loan from museums throughout the country. She will also be
assisting with promoting the program at museum conferences and working with
potential grantees throughout the application process. During her tenure at
the Denver Art Museum, Ms. Assaf was responsible for the management and
execution of all registration functions, and for overseeing the
implementation of the collection’s new computer system. Before coming to
Denver, she worked in Paris as a Gallery Assistant at the Faris Art Gallery
and as a consultant for special exhibitions. Her educational background
combines a Master of Architecture from the Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture in
Paris with a Masters in Art History and Museum Studies. Ms. Assaf is an
active member of the AAM Registrar’s Committee, acting as Publications Chair
since the beginning of 1997. "Her strong ties to the museum community, her
education, and her computer experience will be an asset to the Museum Loan
Network" said MLN Director Lori Gross.

In the coming year, Michele Assaf will be attending the Mid-Atlantic
Association Annual Meeting in Rochester, the New England Museums Association
Annual Conference in Hartford, and the American Association of Museums
Annual Meeting in Los Angeles.
