Librarians too face similar problems. Most positions require extensive
education and experience, e.g., an undergrad degree, an MLS and
often a second subject specialty Masters plus technical expertise and
experience and multiple years experience in "ever more responsible
supervisory positions" -- all to earn $25,000/year!

Check the SLA (Special Libraraies Association) website (http://www.sla.org) or
the ALA (American Library Association) website (http://www.ala.org) for
their annual salary surveys. Makes for interesting and occasionally
depressing reading.

Now, try looking for a career as a museum librarian -- a double-whammy!
