CURATOR OF AUDIOVISUALS
Archives/Library Division
Salary range: $29,473.60 - $36,316.80. Excellent benefits.
NATURE OF WORK IN THIS CLASS:
This is a senior-level professional position in the Archives/Library
Division of the Ohio Historical Society. The Curator of Audiovisuals is
responsible for the collection of prints, paintings, photographs, sound
recordings, motion picture film, and related audiovisual materials of the
Ohio Historical Society.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Provide electronic access to audiovisual collections through digital
imaging technology. Develop and implement collecting policies for
audiovisual materials. Appraise audiovisual collections. Recommend the
purchase, and solicit the donation, of audiovisual materials. Maintain
existing, and develop new, finding aids for the audiovisual collections
of the Ohio Historical Society. Provide specialized reference service for
staff and researchers. Assist in the preparation of exhibits and
publications. Represent the Ohio Historical Society before the public and
on professional committees and programs.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
Working knowledge of CD-ROM, optical disk, and digital imaging
technologies. Working knowledge of MARC formats and database systems.
Familiarity with basic conservation principles and techniques,
specifically as they apply to audiovisual materials. Excellent
interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate degree in American history, library science, fine arts, or
related field. Three or more years of professional experience working in
an archives, library, or art museum, with specific curatorial
responsibility for audiovisual collections. Demonstrated success in the
development of grant proposals and in the management of grant-funded
projects.
