MUSEUM LOAN NETWORK- PROGRAM ASSOCIATE  (Job # 970590A)

The Museum Loan Network (http://loanet.mit.edu/Web/) is seeking a Program
Associate to assist the Museum Loan Network(MLN) Director in all aspects of
the program's content.  The Museum Loan Network is a national program to
promote collection-sharing of art objects throughout museums in the United
States, funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and The Pew
Charitable Trusts and administered by MIT's Office of the Arts. MLN both
facilitates and funds the long-term loan of art objects.

The Program Associate will be responsible for the MLN Directory database,
including editing entries and communicating with the national museum
community about their content. The incumbent will assist in marketing and
promotion, including writing and speaking about the program at national and
regional museum conferences.  The Program Associate will also assist the
Director in working with potential grantees on application proposals and
reviewing final reports and responding to oral and written inquiries about
the program and its application process.

Qualifications:  MA in Art History or Museum Studies is highly preferred; BA
in either field is required.  Minimum of 1 year museum or museum-related
experience.  The applicant should have knowledge of current museum practice,
particularly curatorial.  Excellent written and oral skills and demonstrated
ability to work well with people from a variety of backgrounds, including
museum colleagues, consultants, grantees and applicants.  Computer skills
essential, especially in the area of data bases and/or collection management
database software.

Starting date for the position is September 1, 1997.  Salary is commensurate
