THE BRITAIN-AUSTRALIA BICENTENNIAL TRUST FELLOWSHIP 1997


In July 1990 the Britain-Australia Bicentennial Trust announced the
inauguration of a Scholarship to be used to fund students or museum
professionals to travel from Australia to the Ironbridge Gorge Museum
 Trust/Ironbridge Institute or vice-versa.  With the help of Sir Peter Gadsden GBE AC,
 close contacts have been developed between Ironbridge and numerous Australian bodies.

Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust

Established in 1967, the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust is one of the UK's leading museums
 centred on the birthplace of the industrial revolution - the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.
 The museum has 8 sites situated throughout the Gorge with rich and unusual collections, and
 an extensive specialist library and archive.

The Ironbridge Institute

The Ironbridge Institute is a collaborative venture between the University of Birmingham and
 the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, based within the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.
  It offers modular postgraduate Diploma and Masters courses in Heritage Management and
 Industrial Heritage.  The Institute's Heritage Management course was the first of its kind in
 Britain and continues to attract a broad base of international students and in-service professionals.

The Award

A grant of up to stlg2,500 will be available in 1997 to fund a return air fare and to contribute
 towards academic fees and living expenses.

Eligibility

Australian applicants will be expected to be undertaking a recognised programme of tuition at
 Ironbridge or fulfilling a research programme which should be related to their career.  It will be
 assumed that Australians planning to come to the UK will be studying at the Ironbridge
 Institute or gaining professional experience within the Ironbridge Gorge Museum.

UK applicants going to Australia must have direct professional or academic involvement with
 the Ironbridge Gorge Museum or the Ironbridge Institute and justify their applications in terms
 of their career development.

Applications

The awards will be decided by a small committee who will be looking at how the recipient's
 award will benefit the individual, their organisation and the wider community.

-  An outline of your research proposal and/or itinerary
  or  details of your planned registration at the Ironbridge Institute
