Dear Colleagues,

A new position for a Community Relations Coordinator at the Kresge Art
Museum, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, is now
available.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS COORDINATOR

About the museum:

The Kresge Art Museum at Michigan State University in East Lansing,
Michigan, an accredited institution, was begun in 1959. Today it houses a
collection of over 5,500 works of art in all media representing many
cultures and centuries. As the only art museum in the mid-Michigan area,
the museum's mission is to collect, document, preserve, exhibit and
interpret works of art from diverse cultures, from the past as well as the
present. This mission reflects Michigan State University's land-grant
philosophy in which instruction, research and public service are integrated
to make the institution an innovative, responsive public resource.

The museum's activities support and serve the academic as well as the
broader mid-Michigan community. The collection and an active schedule of
changing exhibitions (approximately 12 each year) enrich the university and
k-12 curriculums, and promote the understanding and significance of varied
artistic cultures among a wide-ranging audience.

About the Community Relations Coordinator:

This is a new full-time annual position to start approximately August 1st
with an initial three-year appointment. The individual reports to the
director and works: with all staff members including the public relations
and education coordinators, administrative assistant and interns;
volunteers including the Friends of Kresge Art Museum board members and
committees; and the Friends membership group. The Community Relations
Coordinator will serve as a liason with other cultural organizations on
campus, in the community and across the state. The job will entail grant
writing, fundraising and solicitation, coordination of special events, and
developing and implementing other projects that may include working with
statewide traveling exhibitions. The person also will oversee corporate
and individual membership programs and serve as coordinator for both. The
coordinator will be responsible for writing and editing the museum's
newsletter and other publications.

The Community Relations Coordinator must be self-motivated, creative,
energetic and comfortable working in an academic setting as well as with
the general public.

Education and experience:

The job requires: four year college degree preferably in the liberal arts;
minimum five years work experience in a museum or other non-profit;
experience with membership organizations, and developing and implementing
special events; writing, editorial and computer skills. Knowledge of art.

Compensation:

The salary range for this "specialist" position is $28,000-$30,000, plus
the university's excellent benefit package (health, dental, retirement, as
relevant) and four weeks vacation per year. This will be an initial
three-year appointment with possible renewal.
