Museums and cultural institutions had actually been left out of the
invitation list to the summit. The American Association of Museums,
however, lobbied and received an invitation for a delegate. That was Irene
Cornaro (please excuse any misspelling) the director of the Japanese
American National Museum, Los Angeles, CA. She gave a surprise
presentation at the recent AAM conference in Los Angeles. You might try
contacting Irene to see what she was able to learn.
>Was any of the volunteerism summit in Philadelphia aimed toward getting
>people to volunteer for anything other than assisting "disadvantaged
>youths"? From what I have been reading in the media it has all been about
>volunteering to help youths, nothing about volunteering at museums,
>libraries, and other cultural institutions.

>Are cultural institutions not as important as organizations helping the
>disadvantaged? In my opinion they are more important. Someone has to
>record what we do on this planet.
