The Rosenberg Gallery at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, USA,
is organizing an exhibition titled "Artist as Collector." If you know
any artists who might be interested in participating please pass this
information along to them...

        Entry deadline: May 15, 1997
        Exhibition dates: October 27-December 19, 1997

The Rosenberg Gallery at Goucher college is organizing an exhibition
titled "Artist as Collector." The show will feature US artists who
collect anything--artwork, objects, or ephemera--and whose collections
influence, inspire or become incorporated into their own artwork. Both
the artwork and the objects from the collection or photographs of the
collection will be included in the display. Artwork in the following
media will be considered: painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture,
ceramics, fiber, and mixed media. The gallery will publish an
exhibition catalog. There is no entry fee, but shipping to and from the
Rosenberg Gallery will be the responsibility of the artist.

The exhibition will be selected by Goucher College exhibitions director
Helen Glazer and sculptor Bill Schmidt. It will be on view at the same
time as a major exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art titled "A
Grand Design: The Art of the Victoria and Albert Museum." The BMA
exhibition will showcase 250 works from the wide-ranging V&A collection
that have never before traveled to North America--from works by Da
Vinci, Constable and Holbein, to a Dickens manuscript, to a plastic
dress designed in 1965. The exhibition will also discuss the V&A's
fascinating collecting patterns and how they have evolved since the 19th
century and influenced other museums. "Artist as Collector" will focus
on the theme of collecting patterns in the work of contemporary
artists. The possibility of touring it to other cities on the "Grand
Design" schedule is being explored. "Artist as Collector" is being
organized solely by the Rosenberg Gallery, without the participation of
the Baltimore Museum of Art.

To receive an application form, send a self-addressed, stamped business
