Hi,
I am looking for some information regarding 18th or 19th century
millnery or wig making tools.
We have a peice in the collection of our museum that is defying all our
attempts at constructing a function for the piece.  The object looks
like a paddle made of steel with spikes inserted into it (like a card
for carding wool for textiles), the spikes are tool long and heavy for
carding flax or wool. The paddle apparatus fits into a wooden box. Micro
fibre analysis revealed traces of cotton fibers, colored cotton fibres,
hair and feather...
We are perplexed to say the least.  So I guess I am asking for someone
to let me know if they have seen anything similar or have any
suggestions.
