I am in need of some advice as to accepted practice in inviting public
figures to "officially open" the exhibition - is this solely up to the
host institution, or does the touring body have rights to insist upon an
Opener (if not stipulated in a touring contract)?

Surely the host receiving institution knows its own market best?

Surely also, the receiving institution has "bought a product" that it
can do with as it jolly well likes (of course it must keep to the usual
contractual and museological obligations of due care, etc.)?

Any protocol ideas? An unpleasant political situation is brewing here
which your advice could help resolve.
