I have had a four or five interns/work experience students over the last
two years, all of whom have made valuable contributions to the work of our
institution - we have a large backlog to manage, and many projects, large
and small, just waiting to happen!

The level of work I give the students depends to a large degree on how long
the person will be working with us, what their existing skill level is, and
what stage of their education they are at. For example, I try to give a
third year university student a concrete project to work on (a specific
acquisition or collection management project for example) - in addition to
a fair degree of day to day processing work. A school work experience
student, on the other hand, I tend to give primarily processing work - but
a variety of it!

So far this has worked well - the students have appeared to have enjoyed
their work with us, and we have appreciated their contributions to our
section.
