"The Time of the French: Effects of the French Voyager-Native American
Period," is the theme of the 11th Annual South Suburban Cultural
History Conference. The all-day event, sponsored by the South Suburban
Heritage Association, will be held on Saturday, March 8, 1997, at
Prairie State College, Vollmer Road and Halsted Streets, Chicago
Heights, Illinois. Speakers include Louis Aiello, Jr. and his Aux
Sable Travelling Museum; Charles Balesi, author of *The Time of the
French in North America, 1673-1818*; and Vic Johnson, a journalist with
the *Kankakee Sunday Journal*, and author of *Bradley: A Centennial
History of a Prairie Boomtown*. Dr. Balesi will discuss French
aspirations from the French point of view. Mr. Johnson will talk about
the Native American woman's role in helping to create Midwest French
