Dear Museum Affiliates,
Can you help us? Have you recently renovated or developed new
collection storage?
We are currently researching and gathering information on innovative storage
solutions, good products and suppliers ( and ones to avoid), practical
suggestions or plans.
Our Clothing and Textiles Collection is soon to be relocated to
another building which is being renovated to suit our needs. Due to the
sudden funding and budgeting time lines the planning process will be much
shorter than we would wish-only 2 months ( January and February 1997 and
perhaps into March).
Our collection of 20,000 artifacts includes textiles, clothing and
related artifacts (eg. tools, photos, paper patterns and periodicals) from a
wide variety of time periods and cultures. The collection is very actively
used for teaching, research and public programming.
Our current storage systems include hanging, flat, and rolled units,
some of which are within compactor systems. The new space will require new
systems, but we will utilize some of the existing parts if possible.
If you have any suggestions please let us know as we would
appreciate any comments. Please cc: our Curator, Anne Lambert at:

If you have any suggestions of collection storage systems which would be
worthwhile visiting, please let us know.
Thank-you,
