All,

Please excuse any cross-posting.

I have been asked to organize a task force consisting of
curators, professors and librarians at Stanford to discuss
long-range planning for the inclusion of technology in our
institutional plan. As background, we have a collections
management system, are in the process of digitizing images
for inclusion in that system, and have a plan in place to
make data and/or images available through our exisitng web
site, share data and images with the system in the Stanford
Art department, and include a kiosk a multimedia room in one
of the galleries of our new building. We also have our
first CD-ROM project in the works. These are things that we
know that we can accomplish, so we need to look towards the
future.

As a part of this process, I am looking for examples of
programs and projects that other institutions have under way
or are planning. I am especially interested in the use of
new media and multimedia in educational programs and in
public access, and how you think that your visitors gain
from the use of these tools or experiences. We are also
looking into how our technology plan should embrace our
academic users, especially in reference to changing
pedagogies in teaching that might lead educators to create a
higher demand for the type of information resources that we
maintain about our collections. Any examples, either posted
to the list/newsgroup or emailed directly to me, would be
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Leslie Johnston
