P.S. Doug, if the specimens lack information, the chance that they will
be purchased by a natural history museum is slight. In fact, the chance
that they will or can be purchased is slight, anyway, especially by a
natural history museum. You can have them assessed and evaluated for tax
purposes as a donation, but most museums do not and/or cannot purchase
collections from private individuals. If you are holding out for a sale
of these, you may be disappointed. You'd do well to consult a tax expert
and re-thinking them as a donation. With collections with minimal market
value (and that includes many natural history collections), sale is very
difficult at best.
