ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPENING

Director of New Mexico Arts, A Division of the State Office of Cultural
Affairs.  New Mexico
Arts is the state arts agency for the state of New Mexico.

Salary: $48,000 - $55,000

Position Summary: the Director of New Mexico Arts is responsible for the
organization and operation of the division that has as its mission the
promotion of the
arts throughout the state of New Mexico.  The Director is responsible for
division management and planning with the support and guidance of the Arts
Commission.  The Director guides the staff team in implementation of
programs as well as technical assistance and effective communications with
arts groups, artists and governmental and private sectors.   The Director
serves as the spokesperson for New Mexico Arts at the local, state and
national level.  Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity in a multi
cultural state is a basic requirement of the Director.

Immediate supervisor: officer, office of cultural affairs

Position Qualifications:

Minimum of a bachelors degree and at least five (5) years in arts
administration or related filed (a graduate degree in Arts Administration
is desirable); a broad understanding and knowledge of varieties of artistic
and cultural expression and the role of the state's arts agency in
supporting the arts; experience, knowledge and skills in development,
selection and supervision of a diverse staff, planning, budgeting and
resource development; ability to communicate with artists, the general
public, legislators and the business community as an advocate for the arts;
ability to work with and accept direction from the Commission; ability to
relate to people of diverse backgrounds and cultures with sensitivity and
respect (ability to speak both Spanish and English is desirable); skill in
and commitment to the use of technological databases and communications;
experience in monitoring and evaluating program processes and results using
established measurement criteria; familiarity with and commitment to the
principles of quality team management.
