I recently went to a very new, very big, very expensive, very
state-of-the-art museum and was practically driven out of my mind by
the incessant and *conflicting*!!! sounds. Instrumental music, song,
and narration assaulted the ears from every direction. It was
impossible to concentrate on artifacts and labels when sounds coming
from both ahead of me and behind me were clashing with sounds from
directly above. I left the place with a major headache.

P.S. I love music, I really do.

This reminds me of a product that I just came across yesterday. The
Vista Group out of Stamford CT, makes a Soundstick that can be used
with CDs or video laser disks. You plug the receivers into the
player and the visitor can pick it up to hear the audio or video.
I'm not sure of cost, but the company can be reached at 203-323-1310.
This would solve many of our sound problems. Has anyone ever used
them or installed them in an exhibit?
