Hi Adrienne and the rest of us museum-lers,

Either they will reconsider the salary for the position or just hire
somebody who will take the job at the advertised range - trust me somebody
will.  This may mean getting somebody who lacks certain skills or
experience (or not).  We could certainly try to raise salaries from the
"bottom up" it means we have to be on the lookout for unfair salaries and
act accordingly. (I mean, I'd hate to be the person who advertised the
Exec. Director for the upper twenties a while back.  He/She got smoked!)

The people doing the hiring are the ones who need to pay a fare wage from
the beginning.  That is if they have the money (and who doesn't these
days).  It's just plain wrong (unfair, etc. ) if you don't pay appropriate
and you could. (- did somebody say something about ethics?).  We all need
to remember this conversation when we are the ones doing the hiring.

Here's a question for everybody.

How many museums out there actually have effective Professional
Development/Human Resources staff or programs?
