At one of my alma maters, many of the older, beloved buildings had
been named long ago for individuals who had done much for the
university--emeritus faculty, etc.  More recently, however, the
rather aggressive development team realized that this was a prime
opportunity for recognizing those who donate in excess of a
particular amount.  Since the names ("Jones Hall," for example)
could not graciously be changed, it was decided to hyphenate the
name if someone ponied up enough funding.  So, it might become
Jones-Smith Hall.
