Director of Education
The Light Factory Photographic Arts Center

The Light Factory, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, seeks a dynamic
and creative individual to manage educational programs. The director of
education reports directly to the executive director. One of the premier
nonprofit photographic arts centers in the nation, The Light Factory is
committed to stimulating dialogue and inquiry about contemporary
photography and other light-generated media such as video and the
Internet, and their relationships to social, political, and historical
issues. The Light factory functions as a dynamic, non-collecting
laboratory for the education and presentation of both new art forms and
historical works that elucidate issues engaging artists today.

Responsibilities:
 - Develop outreach classes for public school students and continuing
education
classes for adults.
 - Work closely with the Cultural Education Collaborative, a new service
organization of the CHarlotte/Mecklenburg Arts & Science Council that
will administer the community arts education plan for the county
 - Produce interpretive gallery materials for exhibitions
 - Develop minority internship program for high school and college
students
 - Initiate docent tour program
 - Manage community darkroom
 - Write grants for local and state arts council education programs
 - Collaborate with local arts educators

Qualifications
Masters degree in arts education, photography, art history or other
applicable field preferred, minimum of three years relevant arts
experience, knowledge of contemporary art, excellent
communications/writing skills and organizational capabilities.

Salary $24,000 plus benefits package. Minority candidates are encouraged
