Sometimes just simply photocopying the page will make the
writing legible.  You might have to fiddle with the "auto"
versus "photo" setting to get the clearest reading.

This is what I did when I was an Assistant Archivist and we
needed to make copies of damaged moldy manuscripts. I was
amazed how much better I could read the photocopies!
