Members of our museum have begun to come together to discuss diversity
throughout the institution. A committee has been formed to explore some of
the staff's burning issues, which include institutional support, staff
diversity, audience diversity, and personnel policies.
What is currently happening in other institutions, especially those from
urban areas?
I am interested in finding out if there are other such committees out there,
and what they actually do, what actions have they taken, what issues have
successfully and unsuccessfully been tackled, do you feel it needs to start
from the Board of Trustees downward or the reverse, what policies are
currently in place for hiring, firing, benefits, etc..., and anything else
you can think of that may be related.
Certainly, this issue has come up in this digest and in our institutions, but
we would rather not make unnecessary mistakes if we don't have to. Thanks!
