Liquid Gold polish on wood furnature...

Wondering if this stuff is bad for wood furnature.  It leaves a very
sticky shiny, gloss shine to the piece.  I have heard that such polishes
ruin the intergrity of the piece, but asides orvis and water; is there a
commercial brand that is "safe" for cleaning?
