The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, a department of the City of Waco,
seeks a multitalented Curator of History. Founded in 1968, the center
portrays the 173 year history of the Texas Rangers, an icon of Texas and the
American West. The museum is located off I-35, has approximately 120,00
visitors per year and outstanding collections.
Waco is a metro area of 200,000 located at the confluence of the Brazos and
Bosque Rivers halfway between Dallas/Fort Worth an Austin. The town is a
regional center offering most amenities, friendly residents, Baylor
University, and 15 museums and cultural facilities. Austin is 1-1/2 hours
south and Dallas/Ft. Worth is 1-1/4 hours north. (Check out Waco's Internet

Primary duties: Manage, document and seek collections including firearms,
fine art and western memorabilia. Provide research in support of exhibits,
publications and educational programs. Serve on planning team for the
renovation and expansion of the dated 25,000 s.f. facility and exhibits.
Prepare and manage annual division budget. Participate in grants and funding
requests. Supervise paraprofessionals, interns and volunteers. Develop
start-up educational programs and training.
Qualifications: M.A. in Museum Management with focus on the history of the
American West, or, M.A. in History or American Studies focusing on the
history of the American West with comprehensive museum management coursework.
Three years progressive experience as an Assistant Curator or Curator.
Experience planning major exhibits and/or museum facilities. Accomplished
writing skills and expertise with MS-DOS word processing and database
software. Ability to work with diverse constituencies and a professional
demeanor. Ability to lift 40 pounds.
