In Germany, once a month, they have a curbside pickup called
"sperrmuehle", which is usually advertised in the classified sections of
the papers. I've picked up a lot of functioning appliances (refrig,
stoves, etc), but most importantly, several authenticated antiques
(stands, tables, chairs, etc.). I lived in Heidelberg from 76-85 (army)
and it was the only way I could afford to furnish my places. Fleas, per
se, didn't exist then. Market days are Saturdays in medium-to large sized
towns, daily in older sections and special sections of the larger cities.
Usually, markets restricted to food items and the odd booth for tourists,
but since so much has changed since then, this may have also.
