The Clinton Administration submitted yesterday a proposed budget for FY
1997. Highlights include:
IMS -- $23 million, up from this year's $21 million (though still less
than FY 1995).
NEA -- $136 million, up from $99.5 million.
NEH -- same as NEA.
NSF Informal Science Ed -- $25 million, down from $35 million this year.
They have also asked for large increases in education spending, including
charter schools.
On another subject, the Istook amendment is still pending. The House
passed it by 211 to 209, but the Senate shows no inclination to go along,
and the Administration definitely opposes it.
More news as available.
