Cultural Resource Management Program, University of Victoria
Indigenous peoples across Canada - and around the world - are
reclaiming control of their cultural heritage. This course examines
the indigenous perspectives which are reshaping conventional
curatorial practices and looks at emerging forms of cultural
stewardship. Topics include:
- collecting practices and their influence on existing collections
- representation: past and present
- cultural politics
- aboriginal perspectives/aboriginal museums and cultural centres
- issues and problems of acquisitions
- issues of access and ownership
- collections care, handling, and use
Instructor: Gerald McMaster is Curator of Contemporary Indian Art at
the Canadian Museum of Civilization
Dates: June 20 - 28

Fee: $589 Canadian
Accommodation: On-Campus options include: bed & breakfast facility,
condo-style apartments, and residence rooms with meal plans. Program
staff can advise on Off-Campus alternatives.
