no, Tom, measures such as 640x480 are indicators of screen resolution,
not screen size. But you need to know the dot pitch (such as .28mm)
before you know what the apparent resolution of the screen is. For
example, if you have 640 (pixels) x 480 (pixels), and the pixels are
presented with a large dot pitch, then you have an
apparently coarser image than if the dot pitch were smaller. Capisce?
For various reasons (such as download time and theft of images) it can
be preferable to use lo-rez images on web pages, so these cheepee
digital cameras can be just the ticket. Speaking of which, I just got
a demo of the little dongle called Snappy (brought to you by the same
folks who made the Video Toaster). Definitely a functional little
object. Captures video from any source and creates a still image.
Easy, transparent (connects with a thru port to the parallel port),
and effective. Costs $199, great little toy.
