The 20th-century French artist Jean Dubuffet used many unorthodox
materials, among them butterfly wings, in his paintings from the
1950s. The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden had a great
Dubuffet show in 1993 that included a butterfly-wing work. The
show was called _Jean Dubuffet 1943-1963: Paintings, Sculptures,
Assemblages_ and the museum published a catalogue. For further
info on Dubuffet, contact the Fondation Jean Dubuffet in Perigny-
sur-Yerres, France.
